Learning, retention and practice requires an openness and focus on the material that is being presented. However, students that are “acting out” behaviorally are unable to participate in learning in this way and challenge teachers and school staff on how to engage them.
This class will begin to help teachers, social worker, counselors, psychologists understand what might be underneath some of these more challenging behaviors in the classroom such as defiance, disrespect, inattentiveness in class and other disrupted behaviors. The class will focus in on the impact that family and other stressors in a child’s life influence how student’s adapt and behave under these circumstances and provide opportunities to develop strategies to work in positive ways with students that are not performing well.
This class is appropriate for k-12 teachers.
