Writing has become an essential part of the elementary school curriculum. This class will address the challenges teachers face teaching writing in the age of Smart Phones, Tablets and Social Media. What does it mean to be literate? How well are your students prepared to succeed in elementary, secondary and higher education? Participants will discuss how to develop the essential skills needed to collect, organize and develop writing ideas. You will utilize various forms of literature; fiction non-fiction books, poetry, newspapers, web sites and online articles to find sources and content. Tools such as journals and the use of ordinary objects in the home for story development will also be used to motivate and inspire your students to write and write and write!
This course is appropriate for elementary teachers and meets Language Acquisition requirements; Common Core and NYS ELA & Literacy Standards apply. |
